Trina Slade-Burks
Trina comes from an artistic lineage. Many members of her family, who are artists, laid the groundwork for her artistic journey. Her multimedia influences have included creative writing, visual arts, music, and theatre arts. These processes have allowed her to collaborate disciplines into a unique critical ensemble.
Formerly from New Yorks City, the 30+ year South Florida resident enjoys engaging with other creatives around the country, gaining and sharing insight about how art can impact the world.
She co-founded the company ATB Fine Art Group Inc (formerly A.T.B. Fine Artists and Designers LLC) with her husband, Anthony Burks Sr. in 1992. The company is an art-based consulting firm that creates, sells, promotes, and educates art of different disciplines nationally. ATB has provided professional opportunities for hundreds of creatives on an international level for over 25 years.
Arts in education has also been Trina’s passion. For well over 30 years she has worked with a number of institutions, organizations and programs teaching art appreciation, enrichment, history and technique to children and adults alike.
In 2009, Trina expanded her creativity by self-publishing her first book entitled What is My Priority: My Release, which is a book of poetry, affirmations, and art, executed by her with collaborations with family and friends inserts. Since then, she has published six more personal and collaborative works which includes two cookbooks and one professional development book for creatives.
Known for co-curating exhibitions such as CONTINUUM PB Arts and Collaboration: African Diaspora Exhibition, Trina was inspired to start the award winning 501 (c)3 organization, the No More Starving Artists Foundation that’s mission is to help primarily Palm Beach County artists be sustainable personally and professionally by providing opportunities and services. Also known as NMSAF, the concept was developed due to a personal crisis. Artists from the community advocated for the Burks.’ Trina declared that if the family came out of the crisis, she would start a nonprofit to help artists.
Trina is currently working on a series of collaborative workshops that bridges the understanding of depression and how art and music is a therapeutic source of remedy for the mental illness. She continues producing workshops for local artists for the development of excellence in their professional careers. She is also working on moving NMSAF to the next level through its branding and ambassador programs.
